LadyDot Review: LolliPop

Where are my millions from streaming services?! Music Eldorado
by Crazy Red Balls and Madam Misfit in “LolliPop”

It’s a very lively track with an energetic tempo and a great mix of instruments with distinctive vocals. However, when I listen to it, it makes me sad that many artists take a really long time to produce an original, interesting song without getting much benefit from it. It often takes days or even months to produce a song, not to mention years of learning to play instruments. “LolliPop” forces us to reflect and makes us realise that it is worthwhile for us to purchase a particular song or album by our favourite band or artist once in a while. Listen carefully to this new release from Crazy Red Balls and Madam Misfit!

Ever since I reviewed “Vodka Vodka”, I’ve been actively following Crazy Red Balls’ profile in anticipation of new tracks (counting the number of listens, at least I can tell they can buy some more lollipops for this song – if you don’t know what I mean, listen carefully to the lyrics of ‘LolliPop’!). I love the fact that Vladimir composes the melody line himself and adds lots of instrumental inserts to his songs. A very distinctly swinging piano and guitar that makes a fantastic background. In my opinion Madam Misfit could have added some clarinet parts – she plays the clarinet really well and I think it would fit nicely. I really like that she likes to experiment with her voice – sometimes it’s sweet, and other times – a bit naughty (especially when she raps. It’s great!).

It is worth mentioning that the cover of the single was designed (with the help of her dad, of course) by Vladimir’s daughter, Stefi. The colourful graphics she created look simply fantastic and form a coherent whole with “LolliPop”. I hope she got a lot of lollipops for this art cover! :)

You know what else I love about electro swing? That a really cool community is being built around it! Artists compose and record great songs, dancers from all over the world create various choreographies for new releases (if you haven’t seen it yet, make sure to watch the dance battle between The Neoswing Kid and ESS Hachi for the “LolliPop”) and then I write my opinion about them. For me, this single by Crazy Red Balls and Madam Misfit has given me a lot to think about: from now on I’ll be checking Bandcamp from time to time to make sure that my favourite electro swing artists are properly appreciated – not only with numerous positive comments, but also with an appropriate fee.

Bio – LadyDot

Anna (LadyDot) was born in ’94, but always felt she came from the Golden Twenties. “Polka” in Polish means “girl from Poland”, so she’s “Polka in polka dots”. She loves vintage style and spontaneous travels around Europe. But her greatest love (apart from her husband) is of course music, especially Electro Swing.

On her own Blog www.jawizeruk.pl she writes about various music genres. She is a copywriter, so writing is her strong point. Anna likes singing (not only in the shower!) and cooking (especially Italian and Hungarian cuisine).
