Don’t stop and feel freedom – in music and in your life! Szigeti Juli “Freedom”
Freedom. This motif appears very often in songs. Artists often use it to prove that music is freedom. After all, each of us can listen to what we want and even choose from a wide variety of music genres. But not only. Music transports us to different places, creates memories and is associated with many situations in our lives…
As you know, music is a huge part of my world. I love George Michael’s “Freedom”. I always listen to Pharell Williams’ “Freedom” when I’m on the road and I feel like shouting to the world that this is the time when I’m one hundred percent free. And now Szigeti Juli’s “Freedom” joins the ranks of these brilliant songs.
You can feel the freedom right after the first listen – it’s hidden in a fantastic mix of melodic pop with a very subtle addition of electronic music and a big, very big dose of old swing. Of course, apart from Juli’s characteristic vocal, full of incredible power and emotion, my attention was drawn to the sound of the saxophone – so specific to electro swing, without monotony – surprising and very expressive. Combined with the subtle guitar in the background and the perfect arrangement, it all sounds just perfect.
At the same time as the song a video was released, recorded at the Budapest Jazz Club. When I watch it, I can feel the positive energy of “Freedom” even more. And I love the swing-steampunk, stylish clothes! Juli, I already wrote you this in a comment on Instagram, but I’ll say it again: you look gorgeous!
Listening to “Freedom”, I felt like it was a song about me to some extent. For a large part of my life, I really wanted to work with music. But someone kept clipping my wings. “You’re not cut out for this”, “there are better people than you”, “don’t try – you won’t get anywhere anyway”. If I still took such words to heart, I certainly wouldn’t be writing these electro swing reviews for you. And I wouldn’t get a job at a Polish record label! :)
“Freedom” by Szigeti Juli is a message for all those who are still looking for their life path – be free in your choices, don’t look back. I guarantee you that when you listen to this song, you will feel that you can do anything. Just be free – in every sense of the word!
