LadyDot Review: My Top 10 – Part Two

My Top 10 Electro Swing hits that I haven’t reviewed yet! A special episode
to celebrate the publication of 50 reviews in the LadyDot Review series – Part 2

In the previous part I wrote you a few (thousands! haha) words about my 5 favourite Electro Swing songs. I purposely didn’t number this list, because I just can’t choose one best song.

Each of them has some special meaning for me, so none of them deserve to be in 10th or 9th place. I hope you are as excited as I am, because today I have for you a portion of 5 more stories/reviews of the best, in my opinion, songs.

You’ll also find links to my previous reviews at the end of this text – I’ve reviewed a lot of really brilliant Electro Swing songs over that time!

C2C – “Happy”

Have you ever heard this song? If not, you definitely need to catch up. This is a real Electro Swing banger! And the story of how I discovered “Happy” is really very interesting. It was back in college, when I was studying for an exam about B2B and B2C sales models. Totally by accident I got the letters wrong and typed “C2C” into an Internet search engine.

When I have the opportunity to discover some new songs, I always do, so that’s why I reflexively started listening to C2C. First “Happy”, then “Down The Road”, then “Delta”, and then the whole album “Tetra”. I got so hooked that I suddenly forgot about further learning and just melted into this brilliant French electronic music.

If you listen carefully, you will discover in “Happy” all the energy that comes from Electro Swing. You will be put in this delicious mood by really brilliant mixes, a lot of electronic effects, a typical brass section (this motif, which you will hear about 1 minute in, delights me every time) and a wonderful, charming swing piano. When I hear all this, I’m really happy!

Caravan Palace – “Pluma”

I’m afraid if I added “Lone Digger”, “Black Betty” or any other Caravan Palace hit to this list of Electro Swing hits, you’d be a little disappointed. After all, we all know and love them very well! “Pluma” is the Spanish language version of the song “Plume”. It was released in 2020, a year later than the album “Chronologic”. I mainly associate this song with last year’s holiday – my husband and I went on a Eurotrip. We visited Hungary, Romania, Montenegro and Croatia, also passing through Albania and Macedonia.

“Pluma” was blaring in our speakers all the time and motivated us to keep driving (within 14 days we drove more than 6000 kilometres! P.S. The day before our departure the air conditioning broke down, but it was great anyway – even when we were “boiling” at 36 degrees Celsius :)). I have the impression that this melody simply summons the sun itself! Zoé’s warm voice, hot vibe coming from electronic motifs and typically Electro Swing warming mixes. Combined with other Caravan Palace hits such as “Wonderland” and “Mighty”, “Pluma” puts me in the mood for another holiday.

ProleteR – “U Can Get It”

When I started setting up my blog www.jawizeruk.pl in December 2020, I lost motivation every now and then. I kept telling myself that I wasn’t good at writing music reviews. In fact, I was clipping my own wings by not even trying to get my writing published anywhere. Apart from the huge support of my husband Michał, without whom I would never have decided to start a blog, I was motivated by ProleteR and his song “U Can Get It”.

I kept singing to myself “It’s nice work if you can get it, and you can get it if you try” and enjoying those subtle, calming piano sounds and the brilliant swing hop beat. I don’t know if I owe it to this song to believe in my abilities. I know one thing: ProleteR and his songs will always have a special place in my heart. Besides “U Can Get It”, I also love “April Showers”, “Throw It Back” or the wonderful “What Lana Says” – be sure to listen to these perfectly crafted tracks.

Balduin – “Mister Mister”

I feel like since I’ve been writing a review for Electro Swing Thing, I’ve hardly missed a new song by this duo. I make no secret of the fact that I really adore them. And my history with Balduin just started with “Mister Mister”. I’m not sure, but I think I first heard this song by… accident. I guess it’s just that Spotify knows my taste in music better than I do and played me this very hit by itself!

Apart from SUE’s truly enchanting vocals, which captivated me from the very first sound, I appreciate this track above all for its simplicity. A “walking” rhythm, a subtle melody making my body sway, a guitar playing somewhere in the background… And that clarinet… This instrument absolutely kills.

It starts during the choruses but at the very end it blows the system away with this wonderful solo. I remember sitting in one of Warsaw’s shisha bars, letting out another puff of smoke and having a drink, all of a sudden I heard “Mister Mister” in the speakers. I guess it was a sign that Martin and Benedikt must finally come to Poland! :)

Swingrowers – “Healing Dance”

This is probably one of those songs that I have a whole host of different associations with – when I heard it in 2018, it has accompanied me at many points in my life since. Firstly, we listened to it during our trip to England, to visit my cousins. One of them, Szymon, whenever he sees me after a long time, he just turns on “Healing Dance”. Secondly, we included this song in our video from our… wedding! Yes, this song opens my wedding party.

I have another wonderful memory: at the Swingrowers concert in Wrocław in February 2020, I was very sad that they didn’t play “Healing Dance”. So… I sang the song with Loredana after the concert!

I have no idea what captivated me so much about “Healing Dance”. Maybe it’s the fantastic intro with the brass section, or the perfect PiSK mixes that put me in a great mood. Maybe it’s the wonderful, healing vocals of Loredana and Davide Shorty… Or maybe the whole composition is just so brilliant that my body immediately releases a lot of endorphins while listening to it? :)

My Top 10 Electro Swing hits that I have already reviewed

Instead of a summary, I have something really extra for you! As you know, this is my 50th review. Throughout this year I wrote dozens of reviews, in which I put all my musical heart.

I come back to many of them regularly, every now and then discovering new depths and finding new elements that captivate me. So I leave you with links to reviews of these, in my opinion, best songs. I wish you a lot of fantastic moments with Electro Swing. And with my reviews of course! :)

Bio – LadyDot

Anna (LadyDot) was born in ’94, but always felt she came from the Golden Twenties. “Polka” in Polish means “girl from Poland”, so she’s “Polka in polka dots”. She loves vintage style and spontaneous travels around Europe. But her greatest love (apart from her husband) is of course music, especially Electro Swing.

On her own Blog www.jawizeruk.pl she writes about various music genres. She is a copywriter, so writing is her strong point. Anna likes singing (not only in the shower!) and cooking (especially Italian and Hungarian cuisine).
