Tomahawk Mondo Exotica
In 1982 – at the age of 16 – I started DJing with New Wave, Punk and Ska. More and more I got very influenced by the 60’s as I was a Mod. At that Time I was very interested in all kinds of this fantastic music like 60’s Punk, Northern Soul, Rocksteady and Psychedelic. This time was very important for my following DJ career. I also played in a 60’s-influenced Band, together with T. Eckert (later known as 2-Raum Wohnung). In the mid 80’s I was DJing in many clubs in and around Munich. In 1987 I became the Resident -DJ in the famous independent Club “Circus Gammelsdorf”. I worked there for 7 years. Every Saturday and most Fridays when there were concerts (e.g. Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Psychic TV, Sonic Youth, The Meteors and many others) I framed them with my djing. The audience there was very open minded for several kinds of music. So it was a great chance for me to play my own musical styles like Independent, Punk, EBM, 50’s, 60’s, Ska, Crossover, Grunge and early electronic beats… On a Saturday in 1994 the club completely burnt down, while I was DJing there. Luckily nobody got injured, but it was the end of this great club.
In the beginning of the 90’s I started also playing Breakbeats, Jungle, House and Techno and I was DJing at the first techno raves in Munich (with DJ Hell, Underground Residence, Blake Baxter, Tom Novy, Acid Scout and other “pioneers”). From 1994 on I also started having DJ gigs in Austria, Swiss & France. From 1995 till 1998 I played at several places in Germany – my style was a mixture of different electronic styles but also world music beats and cosmic. I’ve always been interested in bringing old and new sounds together.
In 1999 I released my first Vinyl-EP “Porn Beats” and there were three more to come in the following years. In 1999 I also published my first House 12 inch vinyl: “The Latin Theme” – pure Latin House. In 2000 I released my CD Album “The Meaning of Love”. It’s a mixture of 50’s and 60’s, Trip Hop, Lounge, Latin and Easy Listening.
In the following Years, 2001 and 2004 two obscure limited LPs followed – released together with Peabird (Breakz R Uz): “The Forbidden Fruit” Part 1 and 2. At that time (for about four years) I also was Tour-DJ for “Ritmo de Bacardi”/ Viva-TV together with famous DJs and Acts like George Morel, Salome de Bahia, David Alvarado, Sharam Jay, DJ Yellow, Milk and Sugar, Phats & Small, Future Funk and so on. I released a Double CD Mix for Ritmo de Bacardi – the Latin House. During this time I played in all big Cities in Germany and others all over Europe.
From 2005 till 2009 I had a break because of a badly illness. Since 2009 I am back with DJing, producing Music and organizing my own party series “Swing Junction” and “Mondo Exotica”. In the last couple of years I’ve been doing gigs together with artists like Caravan Palace, Movits!, Amsterdam Klezmer Band, Django 3000, Rotfront, Baba Zula, La Brass Banda, Skazka Orchestra, Shantel, Dirty Honkers, Fanfare Ciocarlia and others. Last but not least I’d like to say, I am an “Oldschool-DJ”. I am still spinning Vinyls and CDs and do mixing “by ear”. The sync button is inside me – I truly love Music!
