LadyDot Review: Dirty Cash – Caught In The Middle
A breath of fresh air in Electro Swing: a new band, genre mixing and a really good start! Dirty Cash – “Caught In The Middle”
Discovering new music is like breathing for me – I can’t live without it! I often spend hours looking for musical inspiration. And not just the Electro Swing ones! I must confess to you, my dear readers, that French electronic music and funk in particular have been ringing out in my speakers lately, but I will never forget Electro Swing.
I’m constantly following what’s happening in the music market and I’m proud to see the constant development of this genre. And today, in this review, I have the great pleasure of introducing you to a new Electro Swing band – Dirty Cash from the UK. I guarantee that their latest track, ‘Caught In The Middle’, is sure to pique your interest. Okay, without further ado, let’s get started!
#ElectroSwing – my source of musical knowledge
Yes, I know, I was supposed to give you a review of ‘Caught In The Middle’. However, I’m going to start a little unusually, because first I’m going to talk about how I discovered the band Dirty Cash. Or rather, how we discovered each other. :)
Instagram – that’s where I post about travel, music and sometimes about my life. I also publish mentions of my reviews there. I really want my content to reach as many people as possible, so I often search for information about artists and songs using the hashtag #electroswing. This was also the case this time. I saw that a band I don’t know had uploaded information about the release of a new single.
I liked the post, listened to a snippet of ‘Caught In The Middle’ and moments later received a message from Dirty Cash – Rory, the guitarist, asked me if I would like to review the track. I wrote back that I would definitely consider it. A while later I listened to the single in its entirety and I was already sure – I just had to present it to you, because I feel that this band has really great potential to shake up the Electro Swing music market. Why? You’ll find out in a moment!
Electro Swing + rock + funk = “Caught In The Middle”
Many times in my reviews I have emphasised that Electro Swing is very fast growing and evolving. Artists often mix different musical genres, resulting in something fresh, cool, new…. Something I’ve never heard before. I’m telling you seriously – ‘Caught In The Middle’ is an incredibly diverse track where you can hear influences of funk, rock, pop and of course Electro Swing. I really, really like the guitar sound here.
Do you know what my first association was? The guitarist, Rory Fields, was inspired by the playing style of John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I have no idea if that was the case, but that guitar in ‘Caught In The Middle’ is a bit funky, a bit rock – really, it’s very good to listen to. And it’s even better when you focus on that amazing vocal. JoJo’s (vocalist) singing style, i.e. that distinctive phrasing (ahh, can you hear how it blends perfectly with those syncopated drum beats? :)), reminds me a bit of Liliboy from the band Deluxe. Both of these girls have a completely different tone of voice, and I think Jojo has yet to show us all the colours of her vocals. I’m looking forward to it!
Speaking of Electro Swing, absolutely no saxophone could be missing from ‘Caught In The Middle’. It is this instrument that comes to the fore here and can be heard at almost every moment. The solo totally stole my heart, enchanted me and… left me unsatisfied, so I can’t wait for the band’s next track.
Summary: I want more!
“Caught In The Middle” cemented the belief that Dirty Cash will definitely not go unnoticed by other Electro Swing artists. I feel that their adventure in this musical genre is about to really take off, and collaboration offers will start coming in fast for the band. Why? Because Dirty Cash are creative, young and full of energy, so they definitely have a whole lot of ideas in their heads that they will definitely want to share with Electro Swing fans. In my opinion, the track “Caught In The Middle” could have been a little shorter, but I feel that the band really enjoys creating instrumental improvisations. Who knows, maybe this is what will win them the listeners’ hearts? I sincerely wish them that!
The only thing that worries me right now is the number of Dirty Cash followers on Instagram. I hope that after this review is published, this number will quickly change and you, my dear readers, will show your support for this new Electro Swing band. Because I think they really have a huge potential to make it in this crazy music world! :)
