LadyDot Review: Balduin and J Fitz – Yato

The romantic side of Electro Swing. Fall in love in spring! Balduin and J Fitz – “Yato”

There are a lot of fantastic Electro Swing new releases this Friday. Neo Swing and k-pop “Loco” from Mr. Jazzek, excellent Disco track “Dance Into My Dreams” from DJ Mibor and Tallulah Goodtimes, brilliant EP “Vintage FM” from Tape Five… Believe me: I had a very hard decision what to review this week. When in the morning I heard “Yato” from German duo Balduin, recorded with great vocalist J Fitz, all my doubts were dispelled. It’s a song about love: this feeling that is most often born in the spring. From the very first notes, I had the feeling that love was coming from all sides!

The full title of the song “Yato” is of course “You Are the One”. You know me a little bit, so you know that I like to look for the second bottom and overinterpret.  I did some research on the Internet and found out that “Yato” means “sun” in the language of the North American Zuni tribe! :) When you listen to the lyrics, you will see that it really fits! Now, hands up, who of you has said “sunshine” at least once to your bae? :)

While we’re on the subject, to “Yato” Balduin have added a whole lot of sunshine and of course a lot of positive energy. Electro swing piano at the very beginning puts us in a dancing mood and saxophone inserts between chorus and verse make me happy. Just like in love, right?

Worth mentioning is J Fitz’s charismatic, smooth, gentle voice. To me he sounds like a combination of Rag’n’Bone Man (maybe because of “ooooh” at the end of the song :)) and Aloe Blacc. I love R&B, so after hearing his vocals I promised myself to listen to his songs. His music is really good, be sure to check them out if you like this music genre.

Balduin wrote on their Instagram that “Yato” is the most beautiful song about love they have released. I totally agree with that. They have already made me fall in love with their music, and now it’s time for you! Who knows, maybe thanks to this song you’ll be able to win someone’s heart? :) One thing is for sure: this is the perfect song for spring and summer. I immediately added it to my summer playlist!

Anna (LadyDot) was born in ’94, but always felt she came from the Golden Twenties. “Polka” in Polish means “girl from Poland”, so she’s “Polka in polka dots”.
